“Moses and Aaron brought together all the elders of the Israelites, and Aaron told them everything the Lord had said to Moses”.
Ex 4:29, 30 NIV
Communication is always important. And it is important how it is done and how well it is done. The significance of communication is seen in the rapid spread of the cell, or mobile, telephone system.
God was doing things with his people, and he was doing things for them. After four hundred years of their long sojourn in foreign Egypt their time had come. And God’s time had come. The event unfolding before their eyes was going to change their view of God, and their relationship with him for ever. From being a pastoral, shepherd and warrior God, he was about to become the Saviour- God guiding them to liberation. He had imparted the vision of their coming departure from Egypt, their release from captivity to Moses and Aaron. Now they had to win the people over and to start preparing them for the long trek home to the land of their ancestors. It was necessary to share the vision. Moses and Aaron had become stewards of the vision. God had put it into their hands.
When Jesus bade farewell to his disciples he did the same. His mission had been to reveal God the Father and to win the people’s salvation. Now he was leaving them and in Matthew’s Gospel he said to them, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt 28:19 NIV). In saying this Jesus communicated his great commission and shared his vision of a world for God. Then they became stewards of the vision. Now we do.
Lord, help me to accept the vision and to share it.
