“Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country’”.

Ex 6:1 NIV

Whenever there is a situation where there is a seemingly total logjam of obstinacy and defiance, people of faith always remember that there can be an “x factor”. This is some unknown and unseen event that does not even appear on the horizon. And no one can guess what it is. In mathematics “x” is the unknown quantity. There are sometimes “x” factors in human affairs as well.
In the middle of the mess that had developed for the Israelites in Egypt, God promised Moses that he was preparing his own “x” factor. He called it his mighty hand. Strong, determined and resolute as Pharaoh was in digging his heels in about not releasing the Israelites, God was not going to be thwarted by the huffing and puffing of this foreign king. In fact he was about to release his mighty hand for the Israelites to see and believe, and for the Egyptians to behold in wonder.
On Easter Day God’s mighty hand was once more revealed for the world to see and wonder at as Jesus rose from the dead. He had revealed it at the stilling of the storm. He had shown his mighty power in the feeding of the five thousand. He is still the God of the mighty hand. Never give up believing that he can and will do mighty things. Let others doubt. Let others scoff. But never let your faith in Jesus wither or wander. He has yet more mighty works in store.

Lord, it’s good to know your mighty hand is still at work.
