“He will bring to light the dark secrets and expose the hidden purposes of people’s minds. And then all will receive from God the praise they deserve”.

1 Cor 4:5 GNB
An interesting insight into human nature was provided by a diagram known as Johari Window. It consisted of four panes. One pane represented the parts of ourselves that we recognize and so do others. The second pane stands for the part of ourselves that is known to others but not to ourselves. The third one is the person we know ourselves to be but others don’t see. The fourth pane is the person that neither we nor others can see. Some people find it a bit scary to think that there are secret parts of themselves that neither they nor others know about.
Paul had deep insight into human nature. He didn’t have a Johari Window, but he knew all about secret motives – both good and bad. And he knew that we all have them. And he believed that when Jesus comes again he will expose those dark hidden secrets. But he will also praise the good but hidden and unrecognized secrets as well. Little wonder that here and now is far too soon for any of us to judge or point fingers at any one else.
Some people have dark memories – and we hide them from others by putting on a facade of Christian respectability. We must accept that they are known to God. And while the coming reign of Christ will bring justice, peace, wholeness and love, our hidden secrets will come to light as well. If you have these it would be wise to tell God about them now, confess those that are bad, and accept his healing and forgiveness.

Lord, put your searchlight onto my secret sins.
