“The words of the wise I refute and show that their wisdom is foolishness”.

Isa 44:25 GNB

If you look you can find plenty of wise people around – and many of them are successful. You don’t have to look for the foolish – you meet them everywhere! And most of us are a mixture of the two. Sometimes we are very wise – and don’t we let the world know about it? But then often we are foolish – and don’t we know about it? And some people are very knowledgeable in some academic field – but make mistake after mistake in ordering their own lives.
God often goes counter to human wisdom. Human wisdom says, “Get rich, as rich as you can”. God says, “Do not store up riches for yourselves here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and robbers break in and steal” (Matt 6:19 GNB). Human wisdom says, “Blessed are the pushers and those who elbow their way to the top”. God says, “Happy are those who are humble: they will receive what God has promised” (Matt 55 GNB) In the context of his day, Isaiah was probably ridiculing the confidence of the Babylonian advisers to the king who were no doubt telling him how powerful he was and how long he would live. In pursuing his purpose of salvation God overruled such “advice” and let the Persians overthrow the Babylonians and send the Israelite exiles home.
Make use of whatever human wisdom and guidance you can get – especially in medical matters, and in financial management. Always remember that there is such a thing as “sanctified common sense”. And Paul taught that one of the gifts of the Spirit is the message of wisdom (1 Cor 12:8 NIV).

Lord, give me godly wisdom.
