A BALANCED DIET

“The Lord said to Moses, ‘I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them ‘At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God”.

Ex 16:11, 12 NIV

One of the major factors in life is food. It is a basic necessity and where people cannot get food they soon start to fret. The absence of food leads to immediate stress. And most peoples’ days are punctuated by meal times. Eating food is enjoyable – or should be. Life is hard and difficult without food, and we soon start to lose energy or interest if food is withheld or delayed.

It was a huge problem on the desert journey through the Sinai Peninsula for the Israelites. There sand stretches for miles and it is pretty empty. But God was equal to the challenge. Not only that, but they were going to find different kinds of food. The manna would be there on the ground in the morning Pressed down it would make a similar food to bread, providing carbohydrate. In the evening there would be meat, for quails would come and provide a varied diet.

Much attention is given today in affluent societies to the dietary needs of people. Professional dieticians can tell how much of each kind of basic need there is in different kinds of food. They can measure the amount of fat, protein and carbohydrate you need and match it to your height and weight. Be wise and take whatever advice you can get. Remember that you glorify God in your body, in your health and in your activities. So be disciplined, as a disciple of Christ will want to be.

PRAYER THOUGHT

Lord, help me to remain disciplined in my eating.
